Safe in moderation
Can dogs eat pork? Yes, in moderation
Safe when plain. Fully cooked, unseasoned pork is fine in small amounts; avoid raw pork, fat, bones, sauces and processed pork.
If your dog ate a lot
- No need to worry if your dog ate a little plain cooked pork.
- If it was seasoned, in sauce, raw, or had bones, call your vet for advice.
Don't
- Don't give pork bones.
- Don't share ham, bacon or pulled pork in sauce.
How to give it safely
Serve plain, fully cooked pork in small amounts, with the fat trimmed and no seasoning.
Why
Raw or undercooked pork can carry the parasite that causes trichinosis. Pork fat is hard to digest, and sauces and seasonings may contain onion, garlic or nutmeg.
