Safe in moderation
Can dogs eat cooked salmon? Yes, in moderation
Safe. Fully cooked, plain, boneless salmon is one of the healthiest fish for dogs. Never feed it raw or undercooked.
If your dog ate a lot
- No need to worry if your dog ate plain, cooked, boneless salmon.
- If the salmon was raw or undercooked, call your vet right away.
Don't
- Don't feed raw or smoked salmon.
- Don't leave in any bones.
How to give it safely
Bake, steam or grill it plain with no seasoning, oils or sauces, cook it all the way through, and remove all bones.
Why
Raw salmon can carry the parasite that causes salmon poisoning, and its small, brittle bones can choke a dog or pierce the gut.
