Safe in moderation
Can dogs eat sweet potatoes? Yes, in moderation
Safe when cooked. Plain, cooked, skinless sweet potato is a fine treat in small amounts, but never feed it raw.
If your dog ate a lot
- No need to worry if your dog ate some plain cooked sweet potato.
- If they ate raw sweet potato, watch for vomiting or not eating, and call your vet if it happens.
Don't
- Don't feed raw sweet potato.
How to give it safely
Cook until soft, remove the skin, and serve plain in small amounts. Ask your vet first if your dog is diabetic.
Why
Raw sweet potato is hard to chew and digest and can cause a blockage. Too much can give a dog excess vitamin A.
