Caution
Can dogs eat raw or green potatoes? Caution
Not safe raw. Raw potatoes shouldn't be fed to dogs, and green potatoes contain more solanine, a natural toxin that can make dogs sick.
If your dog ate or touched this, call your vet or a pet poison line now

What to do now
- Call your vet or a pet poison line now.
- Note what was eaten, roughly how much, and when.
- Tell the vet if the potato was green or sprouting.
Don't
- Don't make your dog vomit unless a vet tells you to.
How to give it safely
Only give potato cooked, plain and soft, with no green parts, butter, salt or seasoning.
Signs to watch for
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Lethargy
- Muscle weakness
Why
Green spots on potatoes signal higher levels of solanine, a natural toxin. Cooked, plain potato without green parts is fine in small amounts.
