Caution
Can dogs eat store-bought mushrooms? Caution
Generally safe plain. Washed, plain mushrooms from a grocery store are usually fine, but skip mushroom dishes with butter, oil, onion or garlic.
What to do now
- No need to worry if your dog ate a plain store-bought mushroom.
- If it was cooked with onion, garlic or butter, call your vet for advice.
- If you're not sure it came from a store, treat it as a wild mushroom and call your vet now.
Don't
- Don't share mushroom dishes or sauces.
How to give it safely
If you share any, offer a small piece of plain, washed grocery-store mushroom.
Why
Grocery mushrooms aren't usually a concern for pets, but seasonings and cooking fats can be. Wild mushrooms are a different story and can be deadly.
