Safe in moderation
Can dogs eat watermelon? Yes, in moderation
Safe. Seedless watermelon flesh is a hydrating treat; remove the rind and seeds, which can upset the stomach or cause a blockage.
If your dog ate a lot
- No need to worry if your dog ate some plain watermelon flesh.
- If they ate rind or many seeds, watch for vomiting, diarrhea or not eating, and call your vet if it happens.
Don't
- Don't feed the rind or seeds.
How to give it safely
Cut into bite-sized pieces with all seeds and rind removed. Frozen seedless pieces make a cool summer treat.
Why
Seeds and rind are hard to digest and can cause vomiting, diarrhea or an intestinal blockage.
