Safe in moderation
Can dogs eat pineapple? Yes, in moderation
Safe in moderation. Small pieces of fresh pineapple are a good treat; skip canned pineapple in syrup and never feed the core or skin.
If your dog ate a lot
- No need to worry if your dog ate a few pieces of fresh pineapple.
- Watch for diarrhea or an upset stomach if they ate a lot.
- If they ate the core or skin, watch for vomiting or not eating, and call your vet if it happens.
Don't
- Don't give canned pineapple in syrup.
- Don't feed the core or skin.
How to give it safely
Peel and core fresh pineapple and cut the flesh into bite-sized pieces. Frozen pieces make a summer treat.
Why
Pineapple is high in fiber and natural sugar, so too much can cause diarrhea. The tough core and spiky skin can cause blockages.
