Find an emergency vet

What to do

  1. Dry your dog with a towel if it's wet.
  2. Wrap it in blankets, with one underneath and one on top.
  3. Warm the room or car up slowly.
  4. If your dog is awake and can drink, offer lukewarm water.
  5. Call your vet now and take your dog in to be checked, even if it seems OK.

Don't

  • Don't warm your dog up too fast.
  • Don't use hot water, hot water bottles or anything that could burn.
  • Don't rub your dog or put snow on it.

Signs

  • Shivering (may stop when it gets severe)
  • Drowsiness or confusion
  • Clumsiness
  • Pale gums
  • Collapse or coma

Why

A dog that gets too cold can become confused, collapse and slip into a coma. Gentle warming and quick action can save its life.
