Caution
Can dogs eat corn on the cob? Caution
Dangerous. Dogs can't digest corn cobs, and swallowed pieces can cause a serious intestinal blockage that may need surgery.
If your dog ate or touched this, call your vet or a pet poison line now

What to do now
- Call your vet or a pet poison line now.
- Note what was eaten, roughly how much, and when.
- Go to the vet the same day if your dog vomits repeatedly, won't eat or has a painful belly.
- Put corn cobs in a bin your dog can't open.
Don't
- Don't make your dog vomit unless a vet tells you to.
- Don't assume a piece will pass on its own.
How to give it safely
If you share corn, cut the kernels off the cob first.
Signs to watch for
- Repeated vomiting
- Loss of appetite
- Lethargy
- Diarrhea
- Straining to poop
- Painful belly or praying stance
- Dehydration
Why
Cob pieces don't break down in the gut and can lodge as a hard blockage. A true blockage rarely clears up on its own.
