Dog ate prenatal vitamins and multivitamins? What to do
Most multivitamins are low risk, but iron (high in prenatal vitamins), vitamins A and D, and xylitol in sugar-free chewables can poison dogs.
If your dog ate or touched this, call your vet or a pet poison line now

What to do now
- Call your vet or a pet poison line now.
- Keep the bottle and bring it with you.
- Read the label to the vet. Iron, vitamin D and xylitol matter most.
Don't
- Don't make your dog vomit unless a vet tells you to.
Signs to watch for
- Vomiting, with or without blood
- Diarrhea
- Not eating
- Low energy
- Drinking and peeing more
- Shock or collapse
When signs appear: Within 6 hours for iron; xylitol can act within 15 minutes
Why
The danger comes from certain ingredients. Iron irritates the gut, too much vitamin D raises blood calcium, and xylitol in some sugar-free chewables can drop blood sugar dangerously fast.
