Dog ate drain cleaners? What to do

Drain cleaners are strong acids or alkalis that can badly burn a dog's mouth, throat, stomach, skin and eyes.

If your dog ate or touched this, call your vet or a pet poison line now

Find an emergency vet

What to do now

  1. Call your vet or a pet poison line now.
  2. Rinse any splashes on the skin or fur with lots of tap water.
  3. If it got in the eyes, flush them with water for at least 20 minutes, then see a vet.
  4. Keep the bottle and bring it with you.

Don't

  • Don't make your dog vomit. It can cause more burns.
  • Don't try to neutralize it with another chemical.
  • Don't wait for burns or pain before getting vet care.
