Can dogs eat apples? Yes, in moderation

Safe in moderation. Plain, washed apple slices make a good low-fat treat; remove the core, stem and seeds first.

If your dog ate a lot

  1. No need to worry if your dog ate some plain apple slices.
  2. If your dog swallowed a core, watch for vomiting or signs of a blockage.

Don't

  • Don't feed the core, stem or seeds.
  • Don't share apple pie or sweetened applesauce.

How to give it safely

Wash, then cut into slices or small cubes with the core, stem and seeds removed. Plain unsweetened applesauce is fine as an occasional treat.

Why

Apple seeds contain cyanide compounds, and the core and stem are a choking risk.
